Weymouth Choral Society was founded in 1891 and was the successor to the Weymouth Philharmonic Society. While still in its infancy the Society gave performances of such works as Elijah, with Charles Santley in one of the leading parts. The Society was reformed and reorganised in October, 1931, and each spring and autumn since that time a musical festival has been held, at which many famous artists have appeared.
