A Programme in Praise of the Plough
The first Monday after Twelfth Night is known, traditionally, as Plough Monday. It is the day when the plough comes into its own, for the old folk in Somerset can remember when plough matches were the order of the day.
There was a time, many years ago, when the plough, decked with flowers, was dragged through the village streets-an idea which would hardly bear revival in these days of motor-tractors. Tonight's programme, therefore, will be a sort of anthology of the plough.
