A recorded documentary programme showing the full procedure of enlisting in the Territorial Army.
Recorded by kind permission of the 7th Battalion, the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) at their Battalion Headquarters in Glasgow.
A week or two ago producer Alan Melville stepped along from Broadcasting House, Glasgow, to the headquarters of the 7th Cameronians (the Scottish Rifles) and became an Army man. The only difference between his enlistment and that of an ordinary recruit was that in producer Melville's wake there trundled seven tons of van. Once inside H.Q., however, producer Melville rapidly became Private Melville - a process that the alert microphone of the recording van relayed faithfully to gramophone discs.
The idea of this programme is to let the ordinary listener know exactly what is required in joining a Territorial regiment and what routine of instruction is given once an applicant has been accepted.
Tonight producer Melville will present Private Melville as the hero of rifle drill, physical training, drilling, and the handling and firing of a Bren gun.
