FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

John Snagge is put through his paces as Fire Fighting Recruit by the London Fire Brigade from the L.C.C. Fire Brigade Headquarters, Lambeth
The object of this programme is to show listeners what firemen and auxiliary firemen have to do and are doing throughout the country today during their training.
John Snagge, a novice, will perform such practical exercises as firefighting; jumping from a window into a sheet; ascending an extension ladder to the top of the practice tower, eight storeys high; attempting a skilled job-trying to put out an oil fire with foam ; and trying his hand at another skilled jobâ€”that of extinguishing smoking fire in the practice tower before the smoke drives him into the open.
In the latter two cases the same feat will be attempted by both a half-trained auxiliary fireman and an expert fireman. A further feature of the programme will be an examination of the pressure produced by a hose.
