A knowledge of the hosts of blood-sucking flies, especially those that are carriers of tropical diseases, is of obvious value; but it is only recently that any methods of discovering the relative importance of different hosts have become available. Now delicate serological tests have been devised that make it possible to tell specifically on which hosts dangerous insects depend. The development of this technique is the subject of Dr. Dempster's talk.
