Conductor, E. GODFREY BROWN All we really know of Suppe, a once very popular composer of operettas in Vienna, is an overture or two, such as ' Poet and Peasant' and' Light Cavalry'. The Overture, 'Fair Galatea', however, is one of his lesser known works.
Suppe was for years conductor at the famous Theater an der Wien, and many of his very numerous operettas were produced there.

The speaker is a member of the third generation of a South Indian Christian family. His grandfather was one of the first ministers of the Tinnevelly Christian Church , and his father gave up a good position to go as a missionary to the Telugu field.
Mr. Aaron, who is now Warden of the Student International Club of the University of Glasgow, was educated at Bishop Heber College .and Madras Christian College, Madras University. He did a post-graduate course at Chicago University. On his return to India he was student Y.M.C.A. secretary at the University of Madras. He has recently returned to Great Britain from India.

Listeners are to hear more accounts of experiences in different parts of the world. Mrs. Powys Drummond will describe a voyage from Hainan Island to Hong-Kong on a vessel that had Chinese pirates concealed on board. It was no pleasant experience for the passengers, as listeners can imagine. She will describe their thrilling escape.
Another speaker will give an account of ordeal by shipwreck in the Southern Pacific, 500 miles from the nearest land. Yet another flew over the Kaietur Falls in British Guiana-falls five times the height of Niagara.
He will describe how he took photographs as the plane went over the brink at 125 miles an hour, only ten feet above the water.
And finally, listeners are to hear about the wind known as the Bora, that comes on the mariner under sail ' like a great malignant spirit, ever ready to dismast him, capsize him, sweep him to destruction '.

An Appeal on behalf of TOYNBEE HALL, by His Grace THE LORD ARCHBISHOP
OF CANTERBURY
Toynbee Hal !, the pioneer University settlement, is a national, even a world institution. It was founded fifty years ago and one of those who took an active part in its foundation was the Archbishop of Canterbury, then an undergraduate at Balliol. It has since inspired like settlements all over the world.
The fame of Toynbee Hall is based upon its social investigations and upon its activities as a community centre. For example, Sir William Beveridge , when in residence there, investigated the causes of unemployment and so paved the way for the establishment of Employment Exchanges and Unemployment Insurance. The activities of Toynbee Hall as a community centre are innumerable.
The need for financial assistance is due to the decay of the buildings after fifty years of hard wear and tear, and to the necessity of enlarging the accommodation for the increasing number of students, and for all who come there for help and advice.
Sixteen years ago Toynbee Hall brought all the British residential settlements into a national association. This association, dealing with the efforts of settlements in a corporate capacity, will share the proceeds of the appeal.
