Section I-' What is Man ? '
' Human Nature' by the Rev. J. S. WHALE
For those listeners who were unable to hear the introductory talk by the Religious Director on October 7 one can best sum up this series by quoting a passage from the Archbishop of York's foreword in the new pamphlet ' The Way to God '.
' The series entitled " The Way to
God" starts with familiar facts of experience ; it proceeds to questions that almost everyone is concerned to ask ; it states the answer which the Christian Church exists to proclaim ; and it ends by showing the claim which that answer makes on us today and the manner of life that corresponds to that claim.'
Today the Rev. J. S. Whale , one of the greatest of living preachers, who is to lecture in the first section ' What is Man ? ', will talk on ' Human Nature ', and on November 4 he will lecture on ' Man's Need of God '. Questions arising out of these two lectures should be sent in as soon after each lecture as possible, addressed to the Religious Director, Broadcasting House, and on November 18 Mr. Whale will answer them over the air.
The series is to last until July next year, and dates of all broadcasts and the fullest information are to be found in the pamphlet The Way to God', obtainable from the B.B.C. Publications Department, price 6d., 7d. post free.

Relayed from
The Park Lane Hotel At the pianoforte, J. A. BYFIELD
' The Lost Chord' was sketched by Sullivan at the deathbed of his brother Frederic. It was published a month or two later and became in less than a year one of the best-sellers of all time. Nearly every famous contralto singer over half a century has made it one of the first things in her repertory. It has been stated that the first phonograph record ever played in England was this song. The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) was present on that occasion.
