7/8. Christopher Saxton 's Atlas of England and Wales
(1574). Can Nicholas Crane use Christopher Saxton 's map of Norfolk to lead him through the wild waterland of today? Saxton produced ourfirst atlas, providing Elizabethans with engraved county maps. But his survey was as much of political troublespots as rivers and windmills. Crane learns that Norfolk was the heartland of Catholic conspirators in the late 1500s and investigates why Saxton omitted the Norfolk Broads from his map of the area.
