A carefree Tom rides into a strange town and is mistaken for a government investigator. In a place which has reason to fear such a visitor this is a dangerous case of mistaken identity.

The period is 1900. Lieut. Harry Faversham resigns his commission on the eve of his regiment's departure for the Sudan. His action is interpreted as cowardice and he receives four white feathers.
