Last autumn an all-female group of singers and instrumentalists travelled to the Ospedale della Pieta in Venice, the girls' orphanage where Antonio Vivaldi worked. They aimed to recapture the performance of an Easter Vespers exactly as the composer would have heard it. including using female singers to take the parts of tenors and basses.
