Sixth of ten programmes The artistic association between that great French patron of music, the Princess Edmond de
Polignac, and the Spanish composer Manuel de
Falla, at first sight looks rather improbable. But the dynamism of the princess inspired the reserved, even austere composer to write for her one of his warmest works, ' Master Peter's Puppet Show '.
Its prolonged gestation, and the circumstances surrounding its eventual birth are described in today's programme. And it has an unlikely bedfellow - Cole Porter 's ballet, Within the Quota. Written and narrated by Piers Burton-Page gramophone records
