Lodge Estate in North London has been a haven of quiet just a stone's throw from the busy
Al. In the 1920s several hundred flats known as Lady Workers' Homes were built to provide accommodation for single professional women. Residents talk to Hugh Sykes about the days when they had their own restaurant and theatre, and had to observe the strict rules laid down in the lease, and compare it to life there today.
