In 1974, on a crisp Good Friday morning, the first-ever equestrian cross-country team event was staged over the outer reaches of The All England Jumping Club. Four years later the new sport has mushroomed so quickly that more than 100 events will be staged in this country alone.
This morning 20 teams of five, drawn from every branch of equestrianism, returned to the sport's birthplace to compete against the clock over an ' honest' mile-and-a. half course.

Sacha Stavisky was a gambler and a swindler who sold millions of francs worth of valueless bonds to French workers. When the scandal broke, over 40 years ago, it rocked France, brought down the government, and almost destroyed the country's parliamentary system. Alain Resnais's film, being shown tonight in an English version, is not about the Stavisky Affair, but about the man himself who became a legend in his own lifetime.
