The capercaillie’s story begins in the north as biologists capture wild animals in Sweden.

The capercaillie’s story begins in the far north as biologists capture wild animals in central Sweden to take to Germany’s Niederlausitz Natural Park.

This documentary series portrays some of Europe’s rarest, and most fascinating animals. Featuring breathtaking photography of endangered species, the programmes present a European landscapes that seems as wild as it must have been a thousand years ago. Today we live in a world where humankind slowly, too slowly, has started to realise that we have to make changes in order to preserve these species and environments for the generations to come.

The four episodes each focus on one animal - it’s needs and habitat: The muskox, the capercaillie, the golden jackal and the mouflon. What are their challenges in a changing world? How does climate change affect them and how do they defend their territory against human influence?
