In Jamz Supernova’s Global Sounds, Jamz dives into a music scene from around the world to uncover a place's unique identity and music. She speaks to artists and creatives to find out what their particular scene looks, sounds and feels like on the ground.

In this episode, Jamz guides you through Barranquilla Carnival: Colombia, one of Colombia's most important folkloric celebrations and one of the biggest carnivals in the world. Along the way, Jamz speaks with key figures from the past, present and future of the carnival, including publisher and critical thinker Angel Unfried, one of the most notable record collectors in Barranquilla, Sidney Reyes Reyes, the first female Pico in the community, Norma Zuñiga, friend of the show Don Alirio, director of La Puntica No Ma, Zulu, podcaster, activist and community leader Frances Tejedor, and more. 

Across the four-part series, Jamz will be exploring themes and music from South Africa (from Kwaito to Amapiano), South Asia (tracing the roots through the diaspora on dancefloors across the world), French Creole (Martinique, Guadeloupe and surrounding areas - looking at how the music has transported, been remixed and is being celebrated in the diasporas in Europe), and Barranquilla Carnival: Colombia (taking a deep dive into one of Colombia's most important folkloric celebrations, and one of the biggest carnivals in the world).
