AI - is it time to embrace the future?

Are we modern day Luddites in our views on AI ignoring its promise of a better world? 

Whether we like it or not, artificial intelligence is here to stay and will play an increasing part in our lives. Should we overcome our fears and simply embrace its potential? 

Two centuries ago English textile workers embarked on a sometimes violent campaign against the use of certain types of cost saving machinery. They were known as Luddites. That name is still used today to describe people who resist progress. Many look back on the textile workers as being unsophisticated, uneducated and unwilling to embrace the future but couldn't all of that be said about those who oppose the increasing use of artificial intelligence in our lives?
