A meeting with Pope Francis; a new poetry anthology on identity

Hugh Pyper translates Biblical Hebrew into Scots; a special report from inside Perth Prison about drama workshops helping social rehabilitation.

A new book has taken on the challenge of translating books of The Old Testament from the original Biblical Hebrew into Scots. Hugh Pyper is the author of The Five Scrolls and joins Tony to discuss how he has shed fresh light on the ancient texts.  

To mark Prisoners Week Scotland, a special report by Paul English from Perth Prison, where drama workshops with prisoners are having a significant impact on social rehabilitation.   

A powerful new podcast series called Bloodlines has been released on BBC Sounds. Tony talks to presenter and investigative journalist Poonam Taneja about her quest to find Salman, a missing 3-year-old child who was born into the so-called Islamic State in Syria.  

Prisons and prisoners have long been a staple of small screen dramas, but can TV ever show a true representation of prison life? With the recent hard hitting drama Time, and the reality TV series Banged Up showing celebrities sharing cells with former convicts, Tony talks to former prisoner Erwin James about how authentic such depictions are.  

A chance meeting in an Edinburgh street has resulted in a medal of thanks from Pope Frances being bestowed on Scottish street artist Michael McVeigh, after one of his works was gifted to the Pontiff. 

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Right Rev Sally Foster-Fulton, who met the Pope last month, is joined by Michael to tell Tony the full story.  

A new poetry anthology, How Do We Talk About Knives, brings together work by more than 20 Scottish writers, exploring questions around the theme of names and identity. Two of the contributing poets, Rebecca Sharp and Marcas Mac an Tuairneir, discuss how names reflect our sense of who we are.
