This film explores what happened on 9th December when 47 people died on a popular tourist destination on White Island, New Zealand when a volcano erupted.

On 9th December 2019, 47 people were on or near the popular tourist destination White Island, New Zealand. As they explored the island the volcano erupted and within minutes, they were covered in a deadly heat and toxic ash that enveloped the island.

 

Through extraordinary first hand footage, never before seen images and the voices of the survivors, paramedics, pilots and recovery team, this is the comprehensive minute-by-minute story of what happened on that tragic day.

 

The event has forever changed the lives of the survivors, the victim's families, local community and the global tourism industry. Forced to confront health and safety failings, tour operators across the world must take note and learn from such catastrophe.
