BBC World Service - Business Matters, Could Hollywood actors go on strike?

The contract between the actors union expires tonight.

Hollywood actors are threatening to join more than 11,000 screenwriters who have been striking against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers since May.

Hollywood actors may join screenwriters in what would be the first two-union strike in the industry in more than sixty years, with huge consequences for film and television production. 

Both sides have indicated a willingness to talk for several days past the deadline, which happened before resolutions were reached in the same negotiations in 2014 and 2017.
