After a series of court cases, we can finally tell the inside story of a money laundering gang who also stole more than ten million pounds in government bounce back loans. A total of ten people have now been sentenced for their part in the gang, which may have laundered £70m. When COVID hit, it didn’t just hit legitimate businesses it also damaged the criminal economy too. As the supply of dirty money dried up, fraudsters diversified. Some targeted the government’s small business support scheme, costing the taxpayer billions of pounds.
