Mothering Sunday, plus Covid's impact on work, faith and mental health - three years on.

Three years after the first Covid lockdown, what is the remaining societal impact - particularly on faith, mental health, work? Plus a celebration of Mothering Sunday.

This Thursday sees the third anniversary of the first Covid-19 lockdown. So three years on, how has the pandemic changed us on both a personal and public level? Professor Christina Boswell of The British Academy joins Zara to discuss an independent review on the long-term societal impacts of covid. Plus author and Quaker Alastair McIntosh and Professor Liz Grant, a co-director of the University of Edinburgh’s Global Compassion Initiative, give their take on what has changed and what has stayed the same since 2020. 

There's no doubt that the pandemic has significantly affected how we approach work, and working from home is now a permanent part of many people’s lives. By how do we stay connected virtually while maintaining productivity levels? One technique is called body doubling -  which is simply doing a task or working in the presence of someone else, whether in person, virtually or even a livestream on platforms like TikTok. Evolutionary psychologist Dr Kristen Knowles and CEO of Disability Equality Scotland Lyn Pornaro explore different ways of working in this new era and ask what the future of work will look like.

Writer Katherine May joins Zara to discuss her new book Enchantment: Reawakening Wonder in an Exhausted Age in which she seeks to find those small things that spark awe - magical moments that bring us a sense of connection to the world. How can this help us navigate the dark cloud of the pandemic?

It’s Mothering Sunday, and for many women, becoming a mum is one of the most significant and rewarding experiences in life. However, it comes with its own set of challenges to navigate, especially in this modern era where social pressures have increased significantly. Freelance journalist and TV reporter Tasnim Nazeer and Sunday Morning’s very own Connie McLaughlin join Zara to reflect on motherhood. Connie became a mum very recently and Tasnim has had five children since her first at the age of 19.

Academic and theologian Dr Eve Poole and Dr Mhairi Aitken, an Ethics Research Fellow in the Public Policy Programme at the Alan Turing Institute discuss the virtues of online philanthropy.
