Forced to camp overnight by the Wyoming trackside close to Grover Station, Arnold Rodgers recounts to his old college acquaintance Will Carter how he solved the riddle of his friend's death the previous New Year's Eve. 

His storytelling draws Carter into a terrifying experience that will haunt him for ever.
