With Burns Night just round the corner, Cathy MacDonald will be joined by multi-lingual researcher, writer and translator Ashley Douglas to discuss what needs to be done to ensure that Scots language is nurtured throughout the year.

Plus, Robert Burns has been translated for centuries in Ukraine. Archivist and Trustee of the Ukrainian Community in Edinburgh Peter Kormylo shares the poet’s links to their own bard Taras Shevchenko. 

To mark the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of Victims of the Holocaust we revisit an interview with Zdenka Fantlová who passed away last year at the age of 100. Her autobiography The Tin Ring details her story of survival. 

Many of us have that one sad song that we go to when we need to feel uplifted. So what is going on in our brains to draw us to this music?  Reverend Phillip Blackledge and Dr Anne Keitel, lecturer in Cognitive Neuroscience at Dundee University discuss. 

Cathy talks to comedian Abdullah Afzal. He’s the creator and star of the Muslim panto Cinder’Aliyah that is making its way through the UK with singing, dancing and halal humour.  

The year of the rabbit has begun as people celebrate Lunar New Year around the world. Kit-Ling Ferguson is passing down Chinese traditions to her son, from dumplings to decorations. 

Violinist Anne Wood’s unique Celtic Connections performance tells the story of her journey from Scotland to Pakistan to see the father she’d never met. Collaborating with international musicians she shares what that experience was like for her and her newly discovered family.
