BBC World Service - World Business Report, China's GDP growth slow down among worst on record

China's economy grew last year at the second slowest rate in almost half a century.

Official figures show the gross domestic product (GDP) of the world's second largest economy rose 3% in 2022.

The Chinese economy expanded by 3% in 2022 - missing the official target of "around 5.5%" and a sharp drop from the 8.4% growth of 2021. If you leave aside 2020 - when the economy was hit by the worst effects of Covid - this was the lowest growth figure in nearly half a century.
