Connie discusses birth trauma, reacting to life-changing events and the phenomenon of near-death experiences.

What happens when we die? Some people claim to have had a near-death experience, often describing a tunnel of light or hearing the voice of a loved one. They include former Celtic captain and Scotland defender Jackie McNamara. He joins Connie to discuss his personal experience while being treated for a brain haemorrhage in 2020. And Connie also explores the phenomenon with Caroline Watt, a Parapsychologist and Professor at Edinburgh University about what science can tell us and Philip Blackledge - Rector of Holy Trinity, Melrose delves in to the spiritual impact these moments can have.

'Birth trauma' is the distress felt by a mother during or after childbirth. In addition to physical, emotional, or psychological trauma, there can be a lot of shame. Connie is joined by GP Dr Punam Krishan who experienced birth trauma when having her first child and Lisa Crabb who runs an antenatal group based in Glasgow - The Birth and Baby Space. 

Last week a museum in London - The Wellcome Collection - announced they’d be shutting down an exhibition they say had ‘racist, sexist and ableist theories and language’. Writer and founder of the Edinburgh Caribbean Association Lisa Williams shares some of the work that’s been going on in Scotland to ensure that the continued impacts of colonialism and hidden histories of people of colour are being told. 

Actor Chris Hemsworth recently revealed that he had discovered he has a predisposition to Alzheimer's disease, causing him to reconsider his priorities and simplify his life. Jillian Storrie, who is on her ministry probation at St John's Parish Church in Hamilton had her outlook changed after her husband had a life-changing accident while author Karl Perry survived a cardiac arrest. They both join Connie to discuss the how these events made them re-dress their approach to life.

Sheridan Smith stars in a new Sky drama exploring alcoholism and substance abuse, called Rosie Malloy Gives Up Everything. Michelle Roncero and coach and counsellor Ross Hyslop, both have lived experience of addiction. They discuss the reason it’s refreshing to see a ‘high-functioning’ addiction on TV, and why it’s so hard to enter recovery when your addiction becomes so much a part of you. 

Many will be rethinking the Christmas budget with fuel and food prices rocketing. Mary Jane Duncan - who runs a cafe in Newport on Tay – and writer Catherine Renton join Connie to think about how we crank down expectations this Festive season without losing what it’s all about.

Plus, the latest feature from 100 Years of Scottish Stories features Alex Dickson sharing the tale of a memorable journey on two wheels.
