Ukrainian troops have broken through Russian positions on the Dnieper river

Ukrainian troops have broken through Russian positions on the Dnieper river north-east of Kherson, a strategic Russian-held city in southern Ukraine

Russia has admitted continued advances by Ukrainian forces in the southern region of Kherson. A defence ministry spokesman in Moscow referred to the number of Ukrainian tanks in some areas as "overwhelming".
