Seonaid Aitken features music from some of the artists appearing at this year’s Edinburgh Festivals including cuts from Sons of Kemet, Squarepusher and Herbie Hancock. We also hear from Herbie himself sharing stories about some of the key moments of his musical career. Plus tonight’s Song Book with pianist Richard Michael looks at the jam session classic Perdido, composed by Juan Tizol and made famous by Duke Ellington, taking in versions by Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Billy May plus a special duet for vocals/piano featuring Seonaid and Richard. Plus music from pianist Fergus McCreadie’s album ‘Forest Floor’ which has just been shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize.
