Repealing the Human Rights Act; how we define modern morality; the Glasgow Sufi Festival

In the wake of Mo Farah's revelations, how we define our identities; Tariq Mahmood on the Sufi Festival in Glasgow; how our views of what morality means shift and change.

With the Westminster parliament attempting to repeal and replace the Human Rights Act, is this a dangerous shift that could potentially remove the rights of vulnerable people, or a much needed refresh of our concept of rights?  Dr Kirsteen Shields, a Senior Lecturer in International Law and Food Security, University of Edinburgh and Emma Hutton, the CEO of human rights organisation JustRight Scotland explore this contentious topic.

A new exhibition charting 500 years of the dissection of human bodies for medical research is at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Our reporter Bob Dickson went to have a look at “Anatomy: A Matter of Death and Life”.

A documentary series “How To Change Your Mind” aims to lift some of the fear that has surrounded psychedelic drugs for decades, by exploring their history and medicinal possibilities. Cathy talks to David Goodman, writer and thinker, and Ross Hyslop, counsellor and coach.

Next weekend sees the opening of the Sufi Festival in Glasgow. Tariq Mahmood is one of the principal organisers and joins Cathy to explore how the Sufi faith values both cultural expression and mysticism.

With the recent news that Sir Mo Farah was trafficked to Britain as a child and given a false name, Ross Hyslop and David Goodman are joined by Mona Siddiqui, Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies at the University of Edinburgh’s New College to discuss how we define and re-define our identities. 

After calls for the Glastonbury Festival’s John Peel Stage to be renamed over historical sexual abuse claims against the late BBC Radio DJ, how much can we hold people accountable for historical actions that were perhaps once acceptable, but now abhorrent? Cathy is joined by David Goodman and Professor Mona Siddiqui.
