Marking two years since the murder of George Floyd.

A preview of this week's General Assembly of the Church of Scotland;  a prison chaplain turned DJ; the Black Lives Matter movement two years on from George Floyd's death.

As the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland gets underway, Cathy speaks to its newly appointed Moderator, Reverend Iain Greenshields, about his thoughts on where the Church is now and the key issues he hopes to focus on in the year ahead. 

As part of 100 Years of Scottish Stories, a snapshot of the lives of 3 members of the McDonald family - Hamish, Seonaid and Grace.

There’s more from the Assembly with Dr Reverend Susan Brown, Convenor of the Scotland Faith Impact Forum and former Moderator;  Reverend Bryan Kerr, minister at Greyfriars Parish Church in Lanark; and Reverend Mike Goss of Angus Presbytery, who discuss the major challenges facing the church and the big talking points of the week ahead, including same sex marriage and the cost of living crisis.

Two years on from the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer, Cathy explores how much attitudes have changed and where the Black Lives Matter movement is now, with the University of Edinburgh’s Professor Tommy Curry who is Chair of Africana Philosophy and Black Male Studies, Briana Pegado, a Scottish-American activist working in the creative arts industry, and film director Stewart Kyasimire whose films include BBC Scotland’s Black and Scottish. 

Are you afraid of monsters? Tom Hiddleston, star of TV series The Essex Serpent, believes our fascination with mythical creatures is part of our need to account for things we don't understand. Briana Pegado and Stewart Kyasimire reflect on our need for mythical as well as real monsters and the purpose they serve.

Reverend Jill Clancy, aka DJ Jolly Jilly, a member of the multi-faith chaplaincy team at HMP Barlinnie prison in Glasgow, tells Cathy about taking over the prison’s radio station, Barbed Wireless, during the pandemic.
