Former Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu

A new documentary series examining Mother Teresa's legacy; the Buddhist festival of Vesak; a conversation with former Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu.

Dr John Sentamu, former Archbishop of York, joins Cathy to talk about his early life in Uganda under the dictatorship of Idi Amin, as well as his current role as Chair of the charity Christian Aid. 

Every year since 1973 a book sale in Edinburgh has been growing in reputation and raised millions of pounds. Reporter Bob Dickson joins the crowds at the Christian Aid book sale to explore its enduring appeal. 

A new 3 part documentary series about Mother Teresa explores both her achievements and her controversies. Cathy talks to Ian Dunn of the Scottish Catholic magazine about whether this will change our view of the woman who was made a saint by Pope Francis.

The casting of Ncuti Gatwa as the new Doctor Who presents a different version of masculinity from previous actors. With such a high profile casting, is the public discussion around masculinity getting broader? Men’s group facilitator Dave Bingham, who works with men’s support circles, and Aman de Sondy, senior lecturer at University College Cork, discuss if this is a moment of redefinition for our ideas of masculinity. 

Tomorrow is one of the most important festivals in the Buddhist calendar. Vesak, or simply “Buddha Day”, commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha. Cathy talks to Ani Rinchen Khandro, from the Kagyu Samye Dzong Buddhist meditation centre in Leith, and Dr Halle O’Neal, co-director of the Edinburgh Buddhist Studies network to find out more.
