A more compassionate approach to prison and Rwanda in 2022

Cathy MacDonald discusses a project that aims to make the prison experience more compassionate and examines whether Rwanda is an appropriate location for asylum seekers

Does understanding childhood trauma offer the key to reforming Scotland’s justice system? Fritzi Horstman, founder of Compassion Prison Project, and Natalie Logan Maclean, of the SISCO, discuss how encouraging men and women behind bars to understand traumatic childhood experiences could transform our prisons.   

Cathy Macdonald speaks to Mariem Omari about her powerful play One Mississippi, which features in this month’s Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival line-up. The show tells the stories of four men, exploring how difficult early experiences have shaped their lives. 

With the UK government planning to relocate asylum seekers to Rwanda, Cathy finds out what life is like in the central African country. She is joined by Rwandan journalist Eleneus Akanga, who fled his homeland in 2007.
