Achieving happiness, a need for control in our lives & the bond between mothers and sons.

On this Easter Sunday Cathy Macdonald looks at the special bond between mothers and sons, the need to feel in control in our lives and the nature of happiness.

This year’s Edinburgh Medal winner is Ugandan veterinarian, Dr Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, recognised by the UN as one of the champions of the Earth. She tells Cathy Macdonald about her work towards creating a climate-safe, biodiverse and prosperous future. 

The mother-son bond is a central part of the Easter story, but is there something intrinsically distinctive about this relationship? Cathy discusses this unique bond with Dr Lesley Orr, a feminist historian, theologian, writer and activist, and Luke Devlin, Director of the Centre for Human Ecology and a member of the Catholic Worker Movement.

And Joy Clarkson explains why she embraced being called ‘aggressively happy’ on social media, using it as the title of her new book. She talks about the nature of happiness and what it takes to achieve it.
