The world has sped up but what's happening to our reserves of patience; and the emotional impact of the handwritten words.

There have been new efforts to seek a change in the law in support of assisted dying, but perhaps the most surprising movement for many will be that some religious voices have come out in support of the change. Is there now a significant shift of thinking on the subject? Cathy is joined by Revd Dr Scott McKenna, of Columba Church, Church of Scotland, in Ayr, and Bishop David Chillingworth of the Scottish Episocopal Church.

In our occasional Inspiration series, Lynda-Marie Taurasi meditates on how handwriting connects her to her grandparents and why the written word carries so much impact.

The road to adoption can be challenging for many prospective parents, and in John D. Rutter’s debut book, Approval, he invites the reader to judge for themselves if a fictional couple, David and CiCi, should be approved. The author joins Cathy to discuss the novel and his personal experience of the adoption process.

Cathy discusses the challenges of having a child later in life with children’s author and illustrator Debi Gliori, who had her first child at the age of 17 and her last child at the age of 37, and storyteller Tim Porteus, who became a dad for the fifth time at the age of 53. 

So many changes in the past decades have sped up aspects of our lives, but what has it done for our patience? Cathy talks to Debi Gliori and the Rev Philip Blackledge about the impact the modern world has had on our ability to be patient.

And a look at the latest episode of Channel 4’s Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2021 as the group take on both physical and mental challenges on the Hebridean island of Raasay, led by a team of former special forces members.   Can living through extreme conditions help unblock our potential?
