Women's handball semi-finals with France v Sweden and Norway v Russian Olympic Committee.

Rio runners-up France outclassed world champions the Netherlands 32-22 in their quarter-final to remain on course for a maiden Olympic gold medal and take on Sweden aiming to book a spot in the gold-medal match. The second semi-final catches the eye given that it pairs the 2008 & 2012 winners Norway and reigning champions the Russian Olympic Committee. It is a third semi-final in the last four editions for the ROC who beat Norway 38-37 in overtime in the Rio semis.
