Trailblazing nuns fighting the system & why negativity has a stronger pull than positivity

Why we are drawn to the negative over the positive; Rebel Hearts, a film about trailblazing nuns clashing with the Church; and using art to explore difficult subjects.

The award-winning Spit It Out collective builds connections and provides a platform for discussions around mental health, trauma, consent, and healing though creativity. Cathy Macdonald is joined by founding members, filmmaker Lea Luiz De Oliveira, and rapper and spoken word artist Bee Asha Singh, to explore how art creates space where difficult conversations can be held.

Reporter Bob Dickson heads to Edinburgh’s water ways to see how the purchase of a canal barge is allowing Polwarth Church to help the community around them, including those facing challenges in their lives.

Cathy talks to Mark Logan, former COO of Skyscanner and now Professor in Practice at the University of Glasgow’s School of Computing Science, and Lucy Wren, Chief Executive of Carr Gomm, a leading social care and community development charity.

Sister Teresa Forcades reviews ‘Rebel Hearts’, a documentary exploring the story of a trailblazing group of nuns in 1960s Los Angeles whose struggle for social justice brought them into conflict with the Catholic Church.

Glaswegian multi-instrumentalist Kapil Seshasayee calls himself a protest singer. He tells Cathy why he tackles subjects like casteism and nationalism in his music.
