Mohsin Zaidi talks about his book 'A Dutiful Boy'.

Keeping the faith as a Scottish football chaplain during the Euros, a re-telling of the 1917 visions of the Virgin Mary revealed in Portugal, how ageing re-shapes our identity.

It takes faith to be a member of the Tartan Army, and the belief in our national football team will continue well after Euro 2020.  Lorna Farrell, Football Chaplain for Queen’s Park Women’s Team at Hampden, on the role of faith in football, both on and off the pitch. 

To mark World Refugee Day, reporter Bob Dickson speaks to Elvira Moycanovitch, about her experience of fleeing war torn Bosnia in 1992 and resettling with her family in South Queensferry. 

We know that the pandemic affected many parts of our lives but has it also affected our decision-making?  Writer and broadcaster Richard Holloway and Elizabeth Drummond Young who teaches philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, discuss if our desire to make good decisions is almost like a moral muscle that needs to be exercised and how it is impacted when life throws us new challenges. 

In 1917 at Fatima in Portugal a ten year old shepherd and her two cousins reported seeing visions of the Virgin Mary, revelations that inspired believers and religious pilgrims to flock to the site. This intriguing story has been made into a film exploring the fundamental questions of faith and devotion. Mary Cullen reflects on the issues raised in the film. 

Wouldn’t it be great if we could bundle up wisdom and deliver it to the next generation?  Edinburgh mother of two, Kirsty Mooney has created A Serving of Wisdom, a handbook of advice to prepare her children for the ups and downs in life. 

And building on the idea of passing down wisdom, looking at our attitudes towards ageing, how it shapes our identity and sense of personal worth and value, with writer Charlotte Wood, Richard Holloway, and mother and grandmother Judith Gillespie who doesn't believe that 70 is the new 50. 

Growing up in a working class Muslim family in East London to becoming a top criminal barrister and LGBT campaigner, Mohsin Zaidi's life has had many twists and turns, including many painful experiences of class and racial prejudice. He details these in his book A Dutiful Boy: A Memoir of a Gay Muslim’s Journey to Acceptance, which he shares with Cathy.
