The Right Rev Martin Fair reflects on an unusual year as Moderator of the Church of Scotland General Assembly. 

Acclaimed Zimbabwean author Petina Gappah joins us to discuss the work she has been doing in re-focusing the legacy of Scottish missionary and explorer David Livingstone, ahead of the reopening of the David Livingstone Birthplace museum in Blantyre this summer.

Academic and public intellectual Professor Mona Siddiqui speaks about struggle and suffering from the dual perspectives of Christianity and Islam, around the release of her new book on the subject. And we’re joined by Govan-based coach and Quaker Verene Nicolas to discuss her experience of living with pain for decades. 

Then Mona and Verene are joined by the Right Rev Martin Fair to discuss what it means to be ‘properly religious’ – can you be religious without going to a place of worship, who holds you accountable for your faith and what does having faith mean in a private context? 
 
With churches opening, Catholics have the opportunity to go to confession again. We speak to Father Roddy Johnston and Mary Cullen, editor of Open House, about the meaning, purpose and future of confession as a practice. 

Plus, a review of a wonderful short film from the Feel Good Film Festival. We’re joined by Jason Schroeder of the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association to discuss the festival film Born to Be Mild – about a group of men content with life’s more sedate pleasures.
