What is it about the Welsh and tents? Gareth Gwynn packs his pop-up to find out.

Gareth Gwynn spends the night at a former bomb factory with a group of self-styled minimalists, evangelist of the 'tiny campsite' Dixe Wills, and Everest conqueror Tori James.

The Welsh love to camp. The Welsh have always loved to camp.
Or have they? Gareth Gwynn's not so sure, and he's packing his own canvas pop-up and gas stove to find out where the dividing line comes between the dreams of pitching under the stars on the dunes of Gower or Barmouth and the realities of soggy nights at municipal campsites. 


Over two weeks Gareth rekindles his own childhood experiences, and also those of his grandfather whose bicycle trips to camp at Llangollen in the 1930s seem the very essence of reconnecting with nature on the ultimate simple holiday. 


First, the budget experience as we spend a night at a former bomb factory at Pembrey in Carmarthenshire in the company of a group of self-styled 'minimalists' from Seattle, evangelist of the 'tiny campsite' Dixe Wills, and Everest conqueror Tori James.
