Has the Coronavirus crisis changed our view of politicians and what citizens now expect from them? Is it time for a new social contract between people and their governments?

Has the Coronavirus crisis changed our view of politicians and what citizens now expect from them? Leaders around the world have dealt with the pandemic very differently, with some being praised for their handling of the outbreak, and some criticised. Is it time for a new social contract between people and their governments? Has there been too much division within nations, and the international community? As Covid-19 continues to rage, with persistently high death rates in many countries and leaving economic devastation in its wake, what do people now want from their leaders?

As coronavirus spread around the world so did a wave of misinformation about it. From untested home remedies to misleading videos adding confusion and concern about what can and can’t be trusted. Platforms such as Facebook and Google have, for the first time, taken a tougher stance on what is shared online. But is it up to them and are they doing enough?  Political rumours,  progaganda and conspiracy theories are nothing new particularly on social media – but how far does the disordering of information go in misleading the public and undermining democracy and governments?
