The Palestinian Circus School was set up 12 years ago to bring circus to young people in Palestine. The circus builds powerful creative identities in the midst of the volatile surroundings, offering young people the voice to speak out about their daily life, their struggle, trials and tribulations and their immense desire for peace.

Once a year they have the standout event in their calendar - the circus summer school. Across two intensive weeks, children from all of the different circus classes in Jerusalem, Ramhalla and Al Fara refugee camp train together, learning both team-building and self-development. 

We follow the story of Dana, a 15-year-old who used to live in Gaza, but had to move to Ramallah with her family after all of the difficulties and attacks started happening in her former home. Dana has a strong story to tell, and has a special relationship with the circus and the staff who have been helping her process her experiences and channel her feelings into the art and circus specialties at the school. Her time at the school will be particularly significant as she knows that a strong showing of her skills may see her included in the circus festival and a chance to perform in front of her family for the first time. 

Like Dana, 12-year-old Batoul has been helped by the circus on a personal and social level as she tries to make sense of his surroundings. Finally, 14-year-old newcomer Mahmoud Abu, who was inspired to join the summer school by the story of Mohamad, a member of the circus who was shot and almost killed. All three young people are on their own personal journeys, yet are united by the conflict in their homeland and love of the circus.
