Janice Forsyth talks to George Ezra, hears about this year's Summer Reading Challenge and checks in with The Citizens' Theatre in Glasgow to see how they're coping in the pandemic.

As this year’s Summer Reading Challenge launches it seems more relevant than ever; It’s launching a wee bit earlier than usual to keep children reading over the summer and support parents and carers with children already at home. With school life disrupted and many young people missing the company of their friends, this year’s Challenge will help parents and carers find fun, family-friendly activities, maintain literacy levels- which tend to drop over the summer- and create a safe space for children to connect with their peers. Scottish ambassador, illustrator Johanna Basford joins Janice.

There's another chance to hear Janice’s conversation with musician George Ezra right back at the time his career took off with the release of hit single Budapest, in another pick from our Afternoon Show Archives.

We’re regularly checking in with arts venues across the country to see how they’re faring during the Covid-19 pandemic. Today it’s the turn of The Citizens, operating from the heart of the Gorbals in Glasgow, and the principal producing theatre in the west of Scotland. 

We’ll be helping you tear your eyes from the nearest screen as Owen Duffy, tabletop games expert, gives us his recommendations of story telling games, perfect for anyone who wants a bit of escapism from the familiar four walls!

And we’ll be hearing more from those around the country who are Making a Difference; today Emily Stokes from Mikeys Line, an organisation that was set up in 2015 after a number of suicides in the Highlands, will be talking about the range of support they offer to people young and old.
