On 23rd March 1857, Emile L'Angelier was found dead in Glasgow of arsenic poisoning.

A stack of love letters were found, suggesting he had been involved in a secret affair. Madeleine Smith.

The upper-class daughter of a wealthy Glasgow businessman, was arrested for Emile's murder and sent for trial...
