Captain Pat, who is due to stand trial for the murder of Skookum Jim, looks like he is saved when old acquaintance Peachy Taylor arrives in town posing as the judge who was due to try him for murder. Estella Hopkins has now taken baby Moses into her care in the Golden Nugget much to Jacob's annoyance, but she is adamant she wishes to raise him as her own.

Mean-spirited country cousin of the Connollys, Micky Ban, rides into town seeking his fortune expecting a big hand out from Tom and co. Meanwhile, just as Padraig Connolly and Bridget Mannion decide to get married, an outbreak of typhoid in the town has everyone worried, unless Padraig can postpone the marriage and contain the outbreak with the help of Dr Dunn.
