Malcolm Gladwell on Talking to Strangers.  Review of the Holywood blockbuster The Two Popes and marking the 550th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the Sikh religion.

Cathy MacDonald speaks to journalist and writer, Malcolm Gladwell. His latest book Talking To Strangers explores, as he says, “what we should know about people we don’t know”. 

This year the State of Alabama has been celebrating its bicentennial. Edinburgh-based mezzo soprano, Andrea Baker talks to some of the women in Tuscaloosa about how things have changed and the importance of role models.   

Scottish Women's Aid tell Cathy about a pilot scheme in two areas of the Highlands to try to help women who are experiencing domestic abuse.  

The Two Popes has been getting the thumbs up from film critics. Based on the imagined private meetings between Pope Benedict the XVl and his successor Pope Francis, the then Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio. Ronnie Convery, communications director of the Archdiocese of Glasgow and Mary Cullen, Editor of the Scottish Catholic Journal, Open House give us their thoughts on this new Hollywood blockbuster.

This year marks the 550th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the Sikh Religion, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Ravinder Kaur Nijjar, Chair of Religions for Peace UK Women Of Faith Network talks to Cathy about the life of this extraordinary man.  

Are we in a state of linguistic decline? Last week the hard line grammar brigade mourned the demise of The Apostrophe Protection Society, its founder conceding defeat in the face of what he called modern day ignorance and laziness.    Cathy is joined by Guardian journalist David Shariatmadari author of Don’t Believe a Word, and Ronnie Convery, communications director of the Archdiocese of Glasgow to discuss the issue.
