India's Supreme Court to hear a petition later urging action against rural burning

India's Supreme Court is due to hear a petition on Monday urging states to take tougher action against stubble burning on farms, one of the main causes of the pollution.

Traffic restrictions have come into force in Delhi as the Indian capital struggles to tackle choking air pollution. 

The leaders of Japan and South Korea have met for the first time in over a year in an attempt to improve relations between the two countries.

The last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, has warned of the danger posed by nuclear weapons amid tensions between Russia and the West.
