Edi Stark talks to one of the UK’s most successful young fashion designers about his roots, mixed race heritage and his parents starting their own reggae clubs.

One of the UK’s most successful young fashion designers, Nicholas Daley is currently exhibiting at the V&A Dundee. In Stark Talk, he tells Edi, ‘I’m a six foot five black guy with dreadlocks and may not speak with a Scottish accent but I know exactly where my roots are from’. His story starts in the Barracuda Club Dundee where his mother Maureen Murphy from Lochee and his father Geoffrey Daley from St Anne’s in Jamaica met. They went on, as a hobby, to start their own reggae clubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh before work took them to Leicester. His mixed race heritage and musical roots are key to Daley’s approach to fashion and presentation of his design collections. Even the Slygo T shirt, referring to his dad’s DJ name is replicated in his latest design collection and can be seen at the current V&A exhibition of his work.
