East German states Saxony and Brandenburg go to the polls today.

Elections are being held today in the states of Saxony and Brandenburg in former communist eastern Germany. In Brandenburg, the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany, or AfD, is leading the polls together with the ruling centre-left Social Democrats. Why are so many voters in Brandenburg opting for the AfD? We hear from Andreas Kalbitz, the leader of the AfD in Brandenburg.

Also is the US on the verge of a deal with the Taliban? And what does that mean for the Afghan government, who have been fighting the Taliban in the city Kunduz in the north of that country? And events take place in Poland today to mark the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War 2.
