China's Hong Kong and Macau office is to give a rare statement about the situation in Hong Kong, where there've been weeks of escalating protests; a man with a rifle has opened fire at a food festival in northern California, killing three people - the latest in a string of multiple shootings in the United States; and the personal doctor of the jailed Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, says she believes he's been exposed to an unknown chemical possibly administered by someone else.
