The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo a "public health emergency of international concern". The country’s Health Minister has welcomed the designation.

The number of fatal drug overdoses in the United States has fallen for the first time in almost thirty years. It's a welcome decline as the US struggles to contain a surge in the consumption of opioids and other prescription painkillers.
