Elizabeth Macneal’s highly anticipated debut novel The Doll Factory is published by Picador this week. Set in Victorian London it’s a story of love, art and obsession. The author discusses the male gaze, the pre-Raphaelites and using historical fiction to highlight how many problems of the 1850s still exist today.
Bob Dickson finds out about a theatre production inspired by the Scottish Men’s Shed Association where members have chosen the story, created the characters and developed the themes to highlight the benefits for men who are involved in Men’s Sheds and report living healthier, happier and more connected lives.
